Walmart and Microsoft, two prominent firms in the United States, have maintained a lengthy and prosperous cooperation for decades. In the New Year, the U.S. titans have strengthened their partnership by collaborating to provide Walmart customers and workers with AI advancements. Walmart has been expanding its digital operations, and these new artificial intelligence capabilities will help its e-commerce customers save time, resulting in significant cost savings.
Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillon and Microsoft Chairman Satya Nadella were at CES 2024. They introduced new AI innovations from Microsoft that would improve the shopping experience of customers who shop at Walmart.
Walmart is improving digital shopping experiences this year using proprietary data available in the company and large language models such as those available with Microsoft Azure OpenAI Series and retail-specific models developed by the giant retailer to give its customers a curated list of items and a more personalized shopping experience.
In a blog, Microsoft said that Generative AI can change “scroll searching” to “goal searching.” Considering the wide range of products available across categories this type of goal searching will make it easier for Walmart customers to shop for all their needs at Walmart for themed parties and other events.
In the summer of 2023, Walmart introduced Generative AI for its associates with the My Assistant app tool with Walmart’s proprietary data, technology, and Microsoft Azure Open AI service. This app has helped its associates with a wide range of tasks.
The world’s largest retailer has seen a growth spurt in e-commerce sales and has generated more than 82 billion dollars in digital sales in fiscal year 2023. Adding Generative AI tools in 2024 is expected to boost its e-commerce sales this year and in the following years.
