The man whose name has not been revealed is charged with stealing trade secrets between August 2018 and 2019, including basic engineering data (BED) for the chip plant and process layout and design drawings, so that a replica of the plant could be built in the northern city of Xi’an with support from an undisclosed Taiwanese company. The unidentified man was at Samsung for 18 years. Â To make sure there are no contaminants in the manufacturing facilities, BED data is necessary. The replica was to be constructed about 1.5 kilometers away.
