A grand jury indicted Alec Baldwin on Friday on an involuntary manslaughter charge stemming from a fatal shooting that happened in 2021 during a filming session for a New Mexico-set movie, reviving an unresolved case.
Several legal actions seeking damages from Baldwin and the “Rust” producers were recently determined to be postponed by judges after prosecutors declared they would file charges before a grand jury. In those instances, several members of the film crew are plaintiffs. On the “Rust” film set in 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed when a live round from Alec Baldwin’s toy gun exploded. This lawsuit will go to trial for the actor.
Ballistics and forensic testing experts utilized replacement parts to rebuild Baldwin’s weapon after some of its components cracked during FBI testing. After examining the pistol and the marks it left on a spent cartridge, the analysis concluded that the trigger had to have been pulled or depressed.
Hutchins’ family attorney, Gloria Allred, stated, “Our clients have always been interested in learning the truth regarding the events leading up to the unfortunate shooting death of Halyna Hutchins on October 21, 2021. In response to Friday’s indictment. “They continue to seek the truth in our civil lawsuit for them and would also like accountability in the criminal justice system.”
Baldwin might spend up to 18 months in jail if found guilty. There is no definite date for the trial.
