Immigrants in Times Square provoke public outcry after assaulting NYPD

A gang of Venezuelan immigrants launched an assault on members of the New York Police Department (NYPD) in Times Square, New York City, on Saturday night. Authorities are currently seeking four fugitives who have yet to be apprehended. The five apprehended immigrants have been formally accused of committing a severe assault offense. They were granted freedom following a judicial hearing; the subsequent court hearing is scheduled for March.

Surveillance footage captures law enforcement attempting to disperse a tumultuous gathering. The footage was captured at the migrant shelter situated at 220 West 42nd St. The second video depicts law enforcement officers trying to apprehend an individual, subsequently resulting in an assault against them.

An assemblage of individuals engage in physical assault by delivering kicks and punches to law enforcement officers, including a lieutenant affiliated with the Midtown South Precinct. One individual sustained a facial laceration, while the other experienced damage on one side of their body. The police received medical attention at the location. Their identities have not been determined.

Law enforcement apprehended a total of five individuals, with one of them being taken into custody specifically on Monday evening. Four further persons implicated in the incident hastily departed from the location. The police are seeking assistance from the public to locate these four individuals who are considered suspects. According to the police, the individuals in question are migrants who reside in different shelters throughout New York City.

The president of the Police Benevolent Association issued a statement characterizing the attacks on police as an “epidemic” and attributing the rise in attacks to the phenomenon of “revolving door justice.”

President Patrick Hendry expressed that police officers face significant challenges in addressing crime and disturbance when the justice system fails to provide enough protection or refuses to do so.

NYPD Police Kelvin Arocha, 19, left, Wilson Juarez, 21, Yorman Reveron, 24, and Darwin Gomez Izquiel, 19, are all charged

Yorman Reveron was one of the immigrants who were liberated. According to law enforcement officials, the defendant, who is 24 years old, is already facing two ongoing charges for assault and robbery in Manhattan. One event occurred at Nordstrom in Union Square, while the other occurred at Macy’s in Herald.
