Prosecutors deny Sam Bankman-Fried’s request to dismiss criminal charges calling it ‘meritless’.

On Monday, in a filing, prosecutors said that the claims by Sam Bankman-Fried that allegations against him were insufficient and were not legally sound were “meritless”, according to popular outlets. Earlier, Sam Bankman-Fried filed motions to dismiss most of the thirteen criminal charges against him. The former CEO of FTX, which dramatically collapsed in November 2022, had pled not guilty to all the charges while senior executives of both Alameda Research and FTX pled guilty and are cooperating with officials.

According to a report in the Associated Press and Reuters, the prosecutors said, “These motions are meritless. The charges track the relevant statutes and the defendant’s alleged misconduct falls within the heartland of what these statutes prohibit.”

The prosecutors made the above filing in a Manhattan court after Bankman-Fried’s lawyers had filed motions earlier this month. The defendant’s lawyers had claimed that the prosecutors had added charges that could reportedly be dismissed by the judge as they were against the extradition or were not complaint with certain U.S. laws as Sam Bankman-Fried registered FTX in the Bahamas.

The pretrial motions filed by Sam Bankman-Fried asked to dismiss many charges but not all the criminal charges levied against him. They did not ask for the dismissal of charges such as securities fraud and money laundering charges, according to earlier reports.

Sam Bankman-Fried faces several criminal charges including fraud, conspiracy, bipartisan campaign contributions that are illegal, bribing a foreign official and more.

U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan will hear oral arguments on the motions to dismiss and the prosecutors filing against dismissal on June 15.

Sam Bankman-Fried remains at his parents’ home in California after he posted bond. He was extradited from the Bahamas in December. He is scheduled to face trial on October 2nd.
