New Steps Are Announced by the Biden-Harris Administration to Lower the Cost of High-Speed Internet

The Biden-Harris administration today declared the release of $73 million in Affordable Connectivity Outreach Funds in an effort to persuade more people to enroll in the program and lower their monthly internet bills.

In the twenty-first century, having access to employment, healthcare, education, precision agriculture, and social media requires affordable, dependable high-speed internet. Still, too many people do not have access to high-speed internet due to infrastructure issues, restrictions brought on by prohibitive costs, or technological constraints. These injustices disproportionately impact older Americans, rural areas, and communities of color because of the serious economic, health, and other disparities brought on by the absence of reliable, easy access to high-speed internet.

To encourage more Americans to sign up for the program and take advantage of the savings on internet costs, the Biden-Harris administration is releasing an extra $73 million in Affordable Connectivity Outreach Grants. Among these assets are:

The nation’s newest and biggest broadband affordability program in history will be promoted and enrolled in with the help of $66 million from the Affordable Connectivity Outreach Program. Building on its existing community partnerships, the FCC is funding partners organizations across the country to act as trusted community ambassadors for the Affordable Connectivity Program and give them the resources they need to pursue cutting-edge outreach initiatives to reach historically underserved communities, including money set aside for outreach to households on tribal lands. 197 applicants from 50 states and territories were chosen by the FCC to participate in a variety of marketing initiatives to advance the Affordable Connectivity Program.
