The champion proclaimed the news of her being “cancer-free” during an interview with Piers Morgan on Piers Morgan Uncensored, his TalkTV program. She revealed that her physicians had diagnosed her with breast cancer and a clear throat.
Navratilova stated in interview extracts published by The Sun that she went through “total panic” for three days following learning of the dual diagnoses and thought she wouldn’t survive to celebrate Christmas the following year. She told Morgan that, as far as they are aware, she is cancer-free, even though she still needs to finish her prophylactic radiation treatments. In excerpts from “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Navratilova discussed her diagnosis and ensuing battle with two cancers.
She won 59 Grand Slam championships in her tennis career—18 in singles, 31 in doubles, and 10 in mixed doubles. Martina asserted that she was resilient because of her childhood in the Czech Republic under communist rule. But she insisted that going through her cancer treatment was the toughest thing she had ever gone through. Giving up, caving in, or quitting had never been an option for her, she said. She also acknowledged that her friends had sent her music to cheer her up.
Navratilova’s wife, “Real Housewives of Miami” star Julia Lemigova, regularly gave updates on her husband’s health. Lemigova divulged that the couple was considering adopting a child this season. The champion’s wife recently surprised her husband by cutting her hair short, giving her an appearance reminiscent of when they first met.
The celebrity champion was initially diagnosed with breast cancer 13 years ago, but was granted the all-clear in 2010. Chris Evert, a former rival of hers in tennis, was presently battling cancer. She sent the song “Lean on Me” to Navratilova.
