Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante said at a news conference the incident occurred at 7:37 a.m. before classes at Perry High School were to begin. The police were on the scene within seven minutes of when they got the incident call. He said there were “multiple gunshot victims,” but that it’s “still unclear exactly how many are injured and what the extent of those are.”
Agents from the FBI’s Omaha-Des Moines office arrived on the scene to assist the Iowa Division of Criminal probe in their probe.
Two gunshot victims from Perry High School were taken by ambulance to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, approximately 40 miles southeast of Perry, according to UnityPoint Health authorities. It was also reported that multiple people were sent to the Des Moines hospital according to health officials.

According to a law enforcement official who spoke to the Associated Press, the suspect in the incident passed away from what authorities believe to have been a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The official talked to the AP under the condition of anonymity because they were not permitted to publicly disclose the specifics of the inquiry.
