American playwright, screenwriter, film director, and creator of “The West Wing,” Aaron Sorkin, split up with his talent representative, Maha Dakhil following her sharing of a pro-Palestinian Instagram post denouncing Israel’s Gaza attacks as “genocide.”
The original message stated, “You’re currently learning who supports genocide.” According to Variety, Dakhil, a Creative Artists Agency (CAA) agent and co-head of Motion Pictures, captioned the photo with the words “That’s the line for me.” She has represented celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Madonna, Natalie Portman, and Ann Hathaway, to name a few.
According to the source, Dakhil afterwards uploaded a second picture with the remark, “What could be more tragic than seeing genocide? observing the denial that any genocide is taking place.”
An apology statement was reported on Variety. “I made a mistake with a repost in my Instagram story, which used hurtful language. Like so many of us, I have been reeling with heartbreak. I pride myself on being on the side of humanity and peace,” she said. “I’m so grateful to Jewish friends and colleagues who pointed out the implications and further educated me. I immediately took the repost down. I’m sorry for the pain I have caused.”
Dakhil has stepped down from her role as co-leader of the motion film division within the organization. She intends to allocate more time to her personal educational pursuits; all the while continuing to serve her clients and collaborate with her colleagues at CAAs.
Alan Sorkin said he will be taking his business over to the William Morris Agency where he was previously represented.
