Apprehension of a teenage Venezuelan migrant who was involved in a failed robbery attempt, during which a tourist and a police officer were shot by the suspect

The New York City Police Department has apprehended the 15-year-old migrant from Venezuela. According to reports, the suspect discharged a firearm, injuring a security guard in Times Square, New York City. However, a visitor was also harmed during the incident on Thursday night. The adolescent and two companions illicitly appropriated stuff from a retail establishment. Upon being confronted by a security guard, the adolescent discharged a firearm, resulting in the injury of a tourist. In addition, he discharged a gun at a New York Police Department officer who pursued him.

The video footage captures a perpetrator, clad in white attire, discharging a firearm toward a female security guard stationed within JD Sports in Times Square. According to the police, the defendant and two accomplices committed theft by taking clothes and sneakers. Upon being confronted by the security guard, the adolescent promptly retreats, pivots, aims a .45 caliber firearm, and discharges it.

According to the authorities, the gunshot did not strike the security guard but instead struck a visitor from Brazil. A state of disorder ensued as individuals commenced sprinting and seeking shelter. The perpetrator, whom a law enforcement officer pursued, abruptly pivoted and discharged a firearm in the direction of the officer. The tourist has been discharged from the hospital and is in good health.

The New York Police Department initiated a search operation to apprehend the suspect and his companions. The individual was identified as Jesus Alejandro Rivas-Figueroa and was arrested in Yonkers alongside his mother. According to reports, he arrived in New York less than six months ago and resided in a migrant shelter. Allegedly, he exhibited signs of distress and shed tears during his detention.

According to police sources, he is also under suspicion for other criminal activities, such as an armed robbery in the Bronx in January and a non-injurious shooting incident in Midtown.

Another 16-year-old suspect was apprehended on Friday morning. In addition, a second individual, also 15 years old, was arrested after the shoplifting event in Times Square.

This shooting event occurred within less than two weeks following an assault on two members of the NYPD by a gang of migrants on January 27 in Times Square.
