Celebrity Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in all of the Pirates of the Caribbean films has been critically acclaimed. After his high-profile divorce trial with Amber Heard, the studio decided to let him go. His denial of a return to the franchise last year was emphatic. Recently, Disney CEO Sean Bailey (DIS) hinted at a revival of the franchise and opened the door for Johnny Depp to join the cast. Internet audiences would go wild if he returned as Jack Sparrow.
In an interview with The New York Times, Disney’s head of motion picture production, Bob Iger, hinted that the Pirates of the Caribbean brand would be revived.
Bailey was quoted as saying to NYT, “We think we have a really good, exciting story that honors the films that have come before but also has something new to say.”
When asked if Johnny Depp will return to the franchise, he said, “Noncommittal at this point,” which seemed to leave the door open for Depp’s possible comeback in the future.
The Pirates of the Caribbean series is one of Disney’s most successful franchises. The spinoff starring Margot Robbie is scheduled for 2020. The film project, however, was canceled by the year 2022. It seems like there will be a resurgence now.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that two spinoffs will be made in the Barbie franchise. One will star Margot Robbie, who plays Barbie in the highly anticipated film set for release in July.
In the wake of a public backlash against Johnny Depp following the news of his bitter divorce from Amber Heard, producer Jerry Bruckheimer came out in support of the actor, saying that Depp was not only a “friend” but also a “terrific actor” and that it was “unfortunate” that their “personal lives” intruded into their professional endeavors.
