Celebrity Florida rapper Charles Jones, known by his stage name Julio Foolio, was tragically shot and killed during his birthday celebrations in Tampa. The Jacksonville-based artist’s death was confirmed by Tampa Police, his long-term attorney, and his girlfriend on social media.
According to the Tampa Police Department, the incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. Jonée Lewis, the department’s public information officer, reported that “two cars were shot at” in the Holiday Inn parking lot at the intersection of Fowler Avenue and McKinley Drive.
Charles Jones was pronounced dead at the scene, though the medical examiner has not yet officially identified the 26-year-old. Three others injured in the shooting have been hospitalized and are expected to recover.
The birthday celebrations initially took place at an Airbnb but were moved to the Holiday Inn after the group was asked to leave due to overcrowding.
Jones booked a room at the hotel, and he was ambushed and shot in the parking lot.
Lewis Fusco, Jones’ long-term attorney, confirmed the rapper’s death to Action News Jax, stating that celebrity Charles Jones “was shot and killed in Tampa” while celebrating his birthday.
Blanco Mani, Foolio’s girlfriend, also shared the news on social media, posting a photo from that night before making the post private. Web fans have since flooded social media with condolences and tributes.
