A group of seven fourth graders became sickened at school after fentanyl was found in gummies. In Amherst County, Virginia, two caretakers have been placed under arrest and may face felony charges. The children consumed fentanyl through gummies that were mistaken for candy.
The sheriff’s office was then given control of the inquiry. They checked the gummies for several substances, Lt. Dallas Hill said.
“We conducted additional testing and discovered the true cause,” said Lt. Hill.
According to Dr. Wells, “Students who consumed the gummies displayed symptoms of nausea, vomiting, headache, and some muscle spasm.” Dr. William Wells, superintendent of Amherst County Public Schools, stated, “A student brought a sandwich bag containing gummies to school and then shared those gummies with six classmates during lunch.” “As a county and as a community, we need to wake up and realize that these things are real and that they are happening. This is an Amherst County problem, not a problem in Richmond or Washington, D.C.,” Dr. Wells stated.
Clifford Dugan Jr. and Nicole Sanders were taken into custody. Dugan faces charges of gun possession with a prior criminal history, Sanders faces charges of drug possession, and both men face charges of engaging in delinquent behavior with juveniles.
